'The Pianist', directed by Roman Polanski, is the tragic tale of a man's experience in Poland during the Holocaust. Based on a true story, 'The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man's Survival in Warsaw, 1939-1945', this movie provides raw insight into the horrors experienced by families and individuals.
I am personally no stranger to the Holocaust. On top of reading many books and watching many movies, I've visited the museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, and various memorials and burial sites in Ukraine. This movie still gave me brand new insight into the atrocities that were committed during this time and the despair felt by many innocent people. It will leave you sobbing.
Full disclosure, there are some brutally violent and disturbing scenes. The movie does not hold back when it comes to portraying what life was really like during the war.
